Smart Home controller II - Transfer system data
My devices are displayed, but I cannot operate them on the new controller. What can I do (migration, installation)?
Problem solution: Devices are displayed but cannot be operated
If your devices are displayed after the data transfer but cannot be operated, this could be due to two possible causes:
1. restart the Smart Home controller II during data transmission
After an update or a restart of the Smart Home controller, the devices may not report a status to the controller for a short time. However, the devices are still fully functional. To display the correct status in the app immediately, operate the device manually on the device itself.
2. old controller is still connected to the router
As long as your old Smart Home controller is still connected to your home network, the Smart Home controller II cannot communicate with the end devices. Make sure that you have disconnected your old controller from the router.
By following these steps, you should be able to operate your devices normally again. If you have any further questions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Can I migrate (Smart Home controller, migration, installation) without a Radio stick (868 MHz)?
Migration without Radio stick (868 MHz) with the Bosch Smart Home controller
If you use devices that operate on the 868 MHz radio frequency but do not have a corresponding Radio stick (868 MHz), migration is not recommended. Without the Radio stick (868 MHz), you will not be able to control these devices via the Smart Home app.
If you still decide to migrate without the Radio stick (868 MHz), please note that you will only be able to operate the affected devices via the Smart Home app once you have connected a Radio stick (868 MHz).
We recommend that you purchase a Radio stick (868 MHz) before migrating to ensure that you can control all your devices without any problems. If you have any further questions or need help, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Why do two Smart Home controllers appear in Apple Homekit (installation, migration)?
Identification and removal of the old Smart Home controller
To distinguish your old and new Smart Home controller, you can compare the last digits of the controller's listing with the MAC address on the back of the device. Once you have identified the old controller, you should remove it. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us!
What do I need to consider before transferring data (Radio stick (868 MHz), Smart Home controller, migration, installation)?

Smart Home controller II - Back up system data
Smart Home controller II - Back up system data
My devices are displayed, but I cannot operate them on the new controller or with the restored data backup
If your devices are displayed in the favorites after data recovery but cannot be operated, this may be due to 2 main reasons:
1) The Smart Home controller II had to be restarted during the data recovery.
After an update or a restart of the Smart Home controller, it is normal for the devices not to report a status to the controller for a short time. The devices are still fully functional. To immediately display the correct status in the app, operate the device manually on the device.
2) If you have switched to a different controller: You have not yet removed your old controller from the router. As long as your old Smart Home controller is connected to your home network, the new Smart Home controller cannot communicate with the end devices
How long is a data backup valid for?
We recommend updating the data backup every year, as the ZigBee network key is updated after a period x. The reason for this behavior is the security standards of ZigBee communication. If this were to happen between the time the data backup is created and the data is restored, the controller would not be able to communicate with the ZigBee devices
Can I read out the data backup?
No, this is not possible.
Can I perform multiple data backups?
Yes, this is possible - but do not start the second backup immediately after the first (15 min)
Where is the data backup file stored?
You can back up the data on your mobile device or in your private cloud.
What do I need to consider when backing up data?
The following requirements must be met for the data backup to be successful:
- The Smart Home controller and your smartphone or tablet are in the same home network.
- You know the system password.
- All smart devices that you want to secure (Radiator thermostats, Smart plugs, Shutter controls, etc.) are online.
- For technical reasons, Zigbee devices can only be restored on the Smart Home controller II.
First-generation devices that support the proprietary 868 MHz radio protocol are not affected by this restriction. They can also be fully restored on the first generation Smart Home controller.
What is the data backup procedure and how long does it take?
Please note the following when backing up and later restoring the system data:
- The data backup takes about 1 - 5 minutes.
- The Smart Home controller is not available during the process.
- You can cancel the data backup by tapping on the "X" symbol at the top left of the screen.
- If an error occurs during data backup, you will be notified.
- Please make a note of the data backup password in your private password manager. You will need this for any subsequent data recovery. The Bosch Smart Home team has no way of enabling you to restore your data if you lose the system password or the data backup password.
- You can save the backup file on your mobile device or in another storage location.
- When backing up the system data for later restoration, it is possible that problems may occur when saving or restoring the data in individual cases, despite compliance with all specifications and requirements. In such cases, devices may have to be re-taught or connections re-established despite previous data backups. No guarantee can therefore be given that restoring from backed-up system data will work.

Is there anything else to consider when recovering data?
If you perform a data backup again in the first 24 hours after the data restore, you prevent the device settings from being set from the data backup.
Does data recovery work in every case?
When backing up the system data for later restoration, it is possible in individual cases that difficulties may occur when saving or restoring the data on the controller, despite compliance with all specifications and requirements. In these cases, it may be necessary to re-pair the controller despite the previous data backup. No guarantee can therefore be given that restoring from backed-up system data will work.
Why can't the Bosch Smart Home cameras and Bosch Home Connect devices and the Yale lock be transferred as with data transmission?
The background to this is the different timing of data recovery - in the case of data transfer, this is in a short time window - the data backup can be several months old by the time it is restored.
This excludes connections to partners or devices that have a so-called ""token"" in the data recovery, as these only have a limited validity.
Is the backup password and the system password the same?
No, both are different passwords.
If you have decided to do this when creating your data backup, the data backup password corresponds to the system password at the time the data backup was created.
The Bosch Smart Home team has no way of enabling you to restore the data backup password if it is lost, nor is it possible to reset the system password.
Where can I find the menu items for data backup and data recovery?
You will find the entries under "More" -> System" in the section: "Data transfer" under the menu items "Data backup" and "Data restore".
Does the controller on which I am performing a data restore have to be set to the factory settings?
No, the controller on which you import the backup must already be set up.
The controller on which I want to perform a data restore reports that the software is too old?
The controller on which you are importing a backup must be at least on the software version under which you created the backup. Please update the software of the Smart Home controller and start the data restore again
Are data transfer and data backup the same thing?
No - when transferring data from a Smart Home controller to a Smart Home controller II, more data can be transferred than with data backup (example Home Connect devices).
We therefore recommend selecting the data transfer option if you want to switch to a Smart Home controller II with a functioning Smart Home controller.

What requirements do I have to meet for data recovery?
The following requirements must be met for data recovery to be successful:
- You are in the home network.
- You know the data backup password.
- All smart devices that you want to restore (Radiator thermostats, Smart plugs, Shutter controls, etc.) are online.
- If you want to switch from a functional first-generation Smart Home controller to a Smart Home controller II, we recommend that you do this via the data transfer under "More" > "System" > "Data transfer".
More data can be transferred there.
- If you are switching from a defective first-generation Smart Home controller to a Smart Home controller II and have first-generation devices, you will need the Bosch Smart Home radio stick (868 MHz) to operate them.
- If you restore the data without plugging in the Radio stick, you will only be able to operate the affected devices via the app again as soon as you connect a Radio stick (868 MHz):
- Room thermostat (first generation)
- Room thermostat underfloor heating (first generation)
- Radiator thermostat (first generation)
- Smart plug (first generation)
- Smoke alarms (first generation)
- Universal switch (first generation)
- Universal switch Flex (first generation)
- Light control (first generation)
- Shutter control (first generation)
- Door/window contact (first generation)
What do I need to bear in mind when recovering data?
Please note the following when restoring the system data:
- Data recovery takes approx. 10 minutes.
- The Smart Home controller is not available during the process.
- If an error occurs during data recovery, you will be notified and the old configuration will be retained.
- You will need the data backup password that you created when you created the backup. Bosch Smart Home has no way of enabling you to restore the password if it is lost.
- To complete the data recovery, software components of the Smart Home controller are restarted. The LEDs on the device do not flash during this restart.
- After the data has been restored, the devices will not report a status for up to 24 hours. The configuration is only assigned to the devices once they have reported back to the Smart Home controller.
- Devices whose installation type has changed after the data backup are deleted and must be taught in again.
Please check the configuration or the intended use of the devices on site and adjust them if necessary.
When backing up system data for subsequent restoration, it is possible that problems may occur when saving or restoring data in individual cases, despite compliance with all specifications and requirements. In such cases, devices may have to be re-taught or connections re-established despite previous data backups. No guarantee can therefore be given that restoring from backed-up system data will work.
Which data will be available again after data recovery?
This data is restored:
- A large part of the Smart Home controller settings (e.g. rooms)
- Learned Bosch Smart Home devices and most of their settings
- Connection to Philips Hue devices-
- Connection to Ledvance devices
- Automations, scenarios and statesConfigurations of the services
- Measurement data of the Twinguard.
- Data and configuration of the Bosch/Buderus energy manager.
For technical reasons, the following data is not restored when switching to a new controller:
- Connections between other smartphones or tablets and the Smart Home controller.
These mobile devices must then be reconnected.
- Connections between the Smart Home controller and the devices that use the local REST API
- The status of remote access
- The status of the controlled devices (e.g. on/off/color/brightness)
- Individual configurations of the devices such as the calibration and position of the Shutter control (Gen 1) and the settings of the heating system, boost mode of the thermostats, power source of the Outdoor siren
- Favorites
- Created widgets
- Integration of the Bosch Smart Home cameras. The devices must be deleted and the connection re-established.
The Energy Manager app must be reconnected to the Bosch Smart Home controller after data recoveryHeat pump and power meter must be relearned via the Energy Manager app if data recovery is carried out on another Bosch Smart Home controller
- Integration of Home Connect household appliances
- Integration of the Yale Linus® Smart Lock with Yale Connect WiFi Bridge*
- Connections to partners via the Smart Home Cloud:
-- Amazon Alexa
-- Google Assistant
-- MBUX Mercedes
Routines, scenarios and rooms have to be newly created for these partners.
- Connection to Apple HomeKit.
Created routines and assignments to rooms must be recreated.
- Connection to Matter - created routines and assignments to rooms must be recreated in the respective Matter apps.
Important
- When changing Smart Home controllers, connections to Zigbee devices can only be restored to a Smart Home controller II for technical reasons.
- If devices have been deleted or reset to the factory settings, they cannot be restored.
Please note:
- Devices whose installation type has changed after the data backup are not restored.
Installation type:
- Light/shutter control II Installation as light control or as shutter control or blinds or awning;
- Relay Installation type as on/off switch or pulse control)
