When and how can the wall switch be used for smart Actuators?
There are several ways you can install your wall switch for smart Actuators. Here are the options:
Option 1: Direct connection
If your flush-mounted box is at least 55 mm deep, you do not need the wall switch for smart Actuators. In this case, your electrician can connect the Bosch Smart Home Actuator directly behind your existing switch.
Option 2: Using the wall switch
If your flush-mounted box is less than 55mm deep or requires additional space for cable installation but is at least 35mm deep, the wall switch for smart Actuators could be the solution. There are two sub-options here:
Option 2.1: Compatible switch series available
Is your existing switch series included in the compatibility list? Then you can continue to use your rocker and frame and simply replace your existing switch with the "push-button unit" of the wall switch for smart Actuators. Click here for theCompatibility list.
Option 2.2: Non-compatible switch series available
Is your existing switch series not listed in the compatibility list? If you have a single frame, you can replace it completely with the frame and rocker supplied. In the case of a multiple frame, this must be replaced with a compatible frame. Please check the compatibility list. Please note that Bosch Smart Home does not offer multiple frames.
Can I continue to use my installed switch series? (wall switch for smart Actuators)?
the wall switch for smart Actuators is compatible with a wide range of switch series. Further information can be found in theCompatibility list.
Here is an excerpt:
Young:A, AS, LS, CD
Gira:ClassiX, E2, E3, Esprit, Event, Standard 55, Studio
Busch-Jaeger:Busch-axcent, Busch-balance SI, carat, Busch-dynasty, future linear, Solo
Please note:
- The installation procedure varies slightly depending on the switch series manufacturer. For further information: https://www.bosch-smarthome.com/rom/ms-compatibility
- The supplied cover/rocker has the standard format 55x55 mm and can therefore be combined with most frames from brand manufacturers
- An existing switch is not a prerequisite for using the wall switch for smart Actuators. A matching single cover including frame is also included with the wall switch.
Can I use the wall switch for smart Actuators without an Actuator?
No, that is not possible.
The Bosch Smart Home wall switch for smart Actuators only works in conjunction with an Actuator. The wall switch only sends a 10mA current pulse to the Actuators. This pulse is recognized and processed by the Actuator as a button press. If the wall switch is connected to a 230V mains supply without an Actuator, it will be destroyed.
Important points:
- The wall switch requires an Actuators in order to function.
- The switch sends a 10mA current pulse.
- The Actuators recognizes this pulse as a button press.
- Connection without an Actuator will destroy the wall switch.
I am a tenant and cannot damage the rocker of my existing switch series. What can I do?
You can use the supplied rocker in combination with the existing frame. The rocker has a standard size of 55x55 mm and therefore fits into most standard switch frames. This means you can use the wall switch without having to make any changes to your switch series.
The wall switch for smart Actuators has two buttons, but my Relay / Dimmer only has one input. How do I connect the wall switch for smart Actuators?
If your Bosch Smart Home Relay or Dimmer only has one input, you have two options for connecting the wall switch for smart Actuators:
- Connect a push-button: You can only connect one of the two push-buttons from the wall switch to the Relay or Dimmer. The other button remains free and can be used for another Bosch Smart Home Actuator.
- Connect both buttons: You can connect both buttons to one input of the Relay or Dimmer. In this case, you can control the Relay or Dimmer with both the top and bottom buttons of the wall switch.
Please select the option that best suits your needs.
Note:Please note that these accessories may only be installed by an authorized electrician.
The wall switch for smart Actuators says max. 10 mA but the Bosch Smart Home Actuators can switch higher currents, can I still use them with the wall switch for smart Actuators?
Yes, you can use the wall switch for smart actuators with Bosch Smart Home Actuators without any concerns. Although a maximum current of 10 mA is specified on the wall switch, this does not affect the Actuators' ability to switch higher currents.
The reason for this is that the current required for the consumer does not flow through the wall switch, but directly through the actuator behind it. The wall switch for smart Actuators only transmits a current pulse to signal the actuator to press a button.
The Shutter control does not fit into my socket, what can I do?
If you have a box depth of at least 35mm, the solution is to combine the Bosch Smart Home wall switch for smart Actuators with the Bosch Actuators.
I currently have a double rocker, can I replace it with the wall switch?
If you have previously operated a roller shutter with this double rocker, you can replace the switch with the Bosch Smart Home wall switch for smart Actuators. The operation changes slightly, as the two buttons on the wall switch are positioned at the top and bottom behind the rocker. Operation therefore changes as follows:
- Alt: left and right
- New: top and bottom
When do I need the wall switch for smart Actuators?
The wall switch for smart Actuators is useful if your flush-mounted box does not have the required depth. Here are the specific requirements:
- You need the wall switch if your flush-mounted box is not at least 55 mm deep.
- If your flush-mounted box is already stressed by cables running together, a depth of at least 60 mm may be required without the wall switch.
- With the wall switch, installation is possible from a box depth of 35 mm.
Please check the depth of your flush-mounted box before deciding whether you need the wall switch. Work on the 230V mains supply may only be carried out by qualified electricians.
What setting should I make for the actuator when teaching it in the Bosch Smart Home app if I use it together with the wall switch for Smart Actuators?
When asked in the teach-in wizard of your Bosch Smart Home Actuator whether you are using a switch or a push-button, you must select the "Push-button" setting.
There is another switch and a socket next to the switch I want to replace. Does Bosch also offer multiple frames?
No, but the rocker included in the scope of delivery has the standard dimensions of 55x55 mm, which is used by many brand manufacturers in Germany. This means that you can continue to use the existing switch frame in most cases.
Can I connect both buttons for the wall switch for smart Actuators to one input?
Yes, you can connect both buttons of the wall switch for smart Actuators to an input of your Bosch Smart Home Relay, Dimmer or Light/shutter control II. In this case, you can control the device with both the top and bottom buttons of the wall switch. This gives you more flexibility when operating your device.
Note:Please note that these accessories may only be installed by an authorized electrician.
Why are the cables supplied with the wall switch for smart Actuators stripped to different lengths?
The cables supplied with the wall switch for smart Actuators are stripped to different lengths to meet the specific requirements of the devices.
The Bosch Smart Home Dimmer, Relay and Light/shutter control II require 6 mm of insulation, while the wall switch for smart Actuators requires 10 mm of insulation. The cable insulation is cut accordingly.
