Increase the wireless range of the Bosch Smart Home with selected devices

Basement, attic, apartment – you would like to use a Smart Home device in a room which is further away, but are concerned that the radio signal to your controller will not be enough? No problem!

Many Bosch Smart Home devices can act as a signal strengthener here: Instead of purchasing an additional repeater, it is enough if suitable smart devices are on the way from the controller to the cellar, for example, in order to switch the Bosch Smart Home range.

1. Do a signal strength test in the app

2. Place your suitable device as a Smart Home repeater

3. Bosch Smart Home Increase the radio range

Step 1: Do I need a Smart Home repeater? Test the signal strength!

Carry out signal strength test via app

If you want to place your Bosch Smart Home device further from your Smart Home controller , the signal strength may not be enough.

In this case, you can increase the range of the wireless network.

For most devices, you can easily test whether the radio signal between the controller and device is strong enough in the Bosch Smart Home app at:

“More” > “Devices” > “ [Device type]” > “ [Individual device name]” > “Signal strength test”.

The signal strength test will show this

The test result shows you the signal strength on the device. You also get information about the signal route and the signal strength of all repeaters on the way between the controller and end device.

This allows you to adjust the placing of your repeater to achieve an ideal signal strength for your device at all times.

Additional tip: if the wireless network has too much interruptions in spite of optimized positioning of the repeaters, you can change the wireless signal under ""More"" > System > Zigbee wireless signal" in order to reduce noise from Wi-Fi networks in particular.

Step 2: Select a suitable device as the Bosch Smart Home repeater

The Bosch Smart Home range extension works for all devices that use the Zigbee wireless standard. All battery-free Bosch Smart Home devices that are permanently connected to the power supply can boost the radio signal, i.e. "repeat" it.

Overview of the repeater devices:

The forwarded radio signal is received by all Zigbee devices, whether it be battery-operated or 230 V device.

Our tip:

When selecting Bosch Smart Home repeaters, the smart plug compact is particularly popular. It can be placed particularly flexibly and easily, and also used in a variety of ways.

To increase your Bosch Smart Home range, place a suitable device as a Bosch Smart Home repeater between your controller and your previously poorly accessible device.

The Bosch Smart Home device automatically acts as a signal strengthener – and naturally performs its usual functions.

For example, your smart Light control II automatically boosts the wireless signal for the Relay which makes your garage door smart.

FAQs

Are [+M] devices also Bosch Smart Home repeater?

If your [+M] device is installed in a Bosch Smart Home system, it uses the Zigbee wireless standard. The smart plug compact [+M] will be the first device of the [+M] generation that can repeat the Zigbee signal. The radiator thermostat II [+M] and the door/window contact II [+M] are not Zigbee repeaters.

If you connect our [+M] devices to the Thread borders router of your Matter system, the Thread wireless standard is used. At Thread, any device that is supplied with a constant power supply (without battery) is also a repeater. Here too, the smart plug compact [+M] will be the first Thread repeater from Bosch Smart Home. The radiator thermostat II [+M] and the door/window contact II [+M] are not thread repeaters.

I only own first-generation Bosch Smart Home devices. Can I use a Zigbee repeater for these devices?

As 1st generation devices transmit via 868 MHz, Zigbee repeaters cannot repeat their signal. With the first generation, only the smart plug (generation 1) can repeat. In this case, the repeater function must be activated in the app.

With a smart plug, you can extend the range of the radio signal for the following devices:

  • Radiator thermostat
  • Room thermostat
  • Underfloor heating room Room thermostat
  • Door/window contact
  • Light control
  • Shutter control
  • Universal switch
  • Universal switch Flex
  • Smoke alarm
  • Other smart plug

I only have Wi-Fi devices. How can I repeat the Wi-Fi signal?

You can repeat the Wi-Fi signal using a conventional Wi-Fi repeater. If you want to repeat the Wi-Fi signal for a Bosch Smart Home indoor/outdoor camera or a Yale Lock, you must ensure that the signal is transmitted on 2.4 GHz.
